Have students give feedback to each podcast. See Creating, Editing, and Posting Podcasts handout for an explanation of how to conduct this step.
Shadows shift, reflections glimmer, and the always-moving chain of cold water continues. Talk with students about the content of the feedback, if they feel it was helpful or not, if it was accurate or beneficial. The inventory can be a lengthy process if a student goes through all of it, but they should have a good idea of where their values lie based on the first section.
Some made me laugh, some made me gasp, some made me cry.

I only gave a portion of two to three class periods to actually write in class; students were expected to write This i believe essays by students their own time.
Over many months, the birds gradually restored my self-confidence and my will to live. Compared to the typical papers I usually assign, this essay allowed my students to not just think about what they were writing but to care about their writing and to be intentional in the language they were using, both in word choice and rhetorical strategies, because it was about what they believe.
Each student should practice reading the essay aloud to someone else at least three times and should also spend additional time reading the essay aloud to him- or herself.
Have students take their strongest belief to begin crafting an essay that is similar to the ones they have been listening to and reading.
Like a child at birth, a lusty lungful pulls life back into my body. At that point, they can record their essay from any device, regardless of platform.
Session 10 By the start of this session, all podcasts should be posted to your class blog. The sound of my footsteps beating against the forest trail. If they need help in narrowing the statements, have them talk with a partner about what each statement means to them and the story behind the statement.

There was a window in one of the offices I went to for treatment that I constantly gazed out of. As a class, look at one of the student examples you read and listened to in Session 5. Whether they use the tool or not, students at this point create a draft of their "This I Believe" essay.

Sharing the Finished Essays The culmination of this assignment was when the essays were shared in a gallery walk. This I Believe Free, Paid I start by playing a few of the essays for the students so that they get a feel for the tone and length.
It gives room not only for observations and critical thinking, but also for meditation and random ponderings. Overall, the feedback was uplifting and actually created a sense of belonging in each class.

This can be done by hand or on the computers and may take some students multiple sessions. Remind students that they should integrate information from previous comments into their own feedback. Have students return to their Two Belief Statements handouts, and share their statements and reasons with a partner to help select the most engaging and coherent belief statement.
